Botanical Description
Daviesia leptophylla, commonly known as narrow-leaf bitter-pea or slender bitter-pea, is an erect to spreading shrub in the family Fabaceae endemic to south-eastern Australia, occurring in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and Victoria, where it grows in dry sclerophyll forest and woodland on sandy or gravelly soils. The plant typically reaches 0.5 to 2 metres in height, with slender, sparsely branched, often glaucous stems. The phyllodes are linear to narrow-elliptic, 2 to 8 centimetres long and only 1 to 3 millimetres wide, with a fine, sharp point and prominent midrib. Pea-shaped flowers appear in spring in short axillary racemes of two to six flowers; the standard petal is bright yellow with a reddish-brown centre, and the keel and wings are red to maroon. The characteristic fruit is a small triangular legume 5 to 9 millimetres long with a strongly oblique shape, dehiscing to release one or two hard, dark seeds with a small aril.
