Dillwynia sericea

Dillwynia sericea, commonly known as showy parrot-pea or silky parrot-pea, is a small to medium-sized evergreen shrub of the family Fabaceae (subfamily Faboideae), native to south-eastern Australia, including Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia, where it grows in dry sclerophyll forest, heath and woodland on sandy or gravelly soils. The plant typically forms a slender, erect to spreading shrub 0.3–1.5 m tall, with wiry, finely hairy young stems that become glabrous and woody with age. The leaves are alternate, simple, narrowly linear and terete or slightly grooved on the upper surface, 5–18 mm long and about 1 mm in diameter, with a short pungent apex and a covering of silky appressed hairs giving the foliage a silvery sheen. The inflorescence is a short, dense, leafy terminal raceme of pea flowers; each flower is 8–12 mm across with a yellow to orange standard petal often marked with red at the base, two pale yellow wings, and a darker red keel. The fruit is a small ovoid, inflated, hairy legume 4–6 mm long containing one or two seeds. Flowering occurs from spring into early summer.
