Botanical Description
Leucanthemum pallens is a perennial herbaceous daisy of the Asteraceae family, native to the western Mediterranean region, particularly the Iberian Peninsula and southern France. Plants grow from a slender rhizome and form loose clumps with erect to ascending stems 30 to 70 centimetres tall, glabrous to sparsely hairy and slightly ridged. Basal leaves are spathulate to oblanceolate, 4 to 10 centimetres long, with crenate to coarsely toothed margins and a winged petiole; stem leaves are smaller, sessile, narrowly elliptic to linear, and progressively reduced upward. Solitary daisy-like capitula are borne at the top of each stem; they measure 2.5 to 4.5 centimetres across and consist of 15 to 25 pale cream to slightly yellowish ray florets surrounding a flat yellow disc of tubular florets. Involucral bracts are oblong with brownish, scarious margins. Fruits are small ribbed cypselae without a pappus. It favours dry grasslands, garrigue, and rocky slopes.
