Maekawaea rhytidophylla

Maekawaea rhytidophylla is an obscure binomial that is not accepted as a current name in Plants of the World Online or the major regional floras. The genus Maekawaea is not currently recognised, and the epithet 'rhytidophylla' (wrinkled-leaved) has been applied to species in several unrelated genera, most prominently Viburnum rhytidophyllum (Adoxaceae). Without a verifiable taxonomic placement it is not possible to provide an authoritative morphological description: leaf form, habit, inflorescence and fruit characters cannot be reliably ascribed. The name may represent an outdated synonym, a misapplied combination, or a herbarium-only designation that has not been formally published or has since been sunk. Until the binomial can be reconciled with a currently accepted taxon — possibly within Gesneriaceae, Lamiaceae or Adoxaceae depending on the original concept — this entry should be treated as botanically unresolved and no medicinal, ecological or distributional claims should be made on its behalf.
