Botanical Description

Platysace ericoides (Sieber ex Spreng.) C.Norman (Apiaceae) is a small, wiry, much-branched shrub endemic to eastern Australia, occurring on sandy soils in heath and open eucalypt woodland in coastal and near-coastal New South Wales and southern Queensland. Plants reach 0.3โ€“1 m tall with slender, glabrous to minutely papillose, terete stems. Leaves are alternate, ericoid (heath-like), simple, narrow-linear to almost terete, 2โ€“6 mm long and under 1 mm wide, with revolute margins concealing the lower surface; they are crowded along younger stems. Tiny white five-petalled flowers are arranged in compound terminal umbels 1โ€“2 cm across on slender peduncles, the partial umbels with relatively few flowers; flowering is mainly in spring and summer. The mericarps are small, dorsally compressed schizocarps with low ridges, characteristic of the genus. The species has no documented ethnobotanical use.
