Botanical Description
Poa tenera is a slender perennial grass of the Poaceae, native to high mountain habitats; the name is currently treated under various circumscriptions across the Andes and other temperate montane regions. Plants form small tufts with thin, soft culms generally 10 to 40 cm tall and narrow, flat or folded leaf blades. The ligule is membranous and the leaf sheaths are smooth. Inflorescences are loose, slender panicles bearing few-flowered spikelets typical of the genus, with glumes shorter than the lemmas and lemmas often keeled and finely pubescent on the keel and marginal nerves. Poa tenera typically grows in alpine grasslands, rocky slopes, and meadows at high elevations, flowering during the brief summer growing season.
