Solenogyne dominii
Solenogyne dominii
Synonyms: Lagenophora gunnii var. glabra
Botanical Description
Solenogyne dominii is a small perennial herb of the Asteraceae family, native to Australia and widely distributed across eastern and southern parts of the continent. It forms a flat basal rosette of obovate to spathulate leaves, often glabrous or sparsely hairy, with shallowly toothed or entire margins. From the rosette arise slender, leafless scapes terminated by small, inconspicuous discoid capitula composed of tubular florets, lacking the showy ray florets typical of many composites. The involucral bracts are arranged in a few series, and the achenes are flattened and lack a pappus, a distinguishing feature within the tribe Astereae. Solenogyne dominii commonly occurs in grasslands, open woodlands and disturbed ground from coastal to subalpine regions. It is considered a hardy, low-growing groundcover plant and is one of several species in a small Australasian genus of mat-forming daisies.
