Vittadinia muelleri

Family: Asteraceae Genus: Vittadinia Species: muelleri

Synonyms: Eurybiopsis hookeri var. angustifolia

Botanical Description

Vittadinia muelleri is a small perennial forb of the daisy family (Asteraceae), forming multi-stemmed clumps up to about 20 cm high from a slightly woody base. The bright green leaves are linear to narrowly oval, 8โ€“40 mm long, with entire to slightly toothed margins, sometimes hairy beneath. From November to May the plant produces solitary, daisy-like flowerheads about 7 mm across, each with a yellow disc of tubular florets ringed by short purplish ray florets. The achenes are flattened, ribbed, and crowned by a pappus of barbellate bristles that aids wind dispersal. The species is native to south-eastern Australia, where it occurs in dry sclerophyll forests, open woodlands, native grasslands, and rocky slopes across Victoria, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, and Tasmania, often on lighter, well-drained soils.
